Base Jumping From Space

Establish your goals and plan for this season.

On October 14, 2012, Felix Baumgartner made the jump of a lifetime.

Equipped with a spacesuit, he stepped off of the balloon carriage that had carried him up 24 miles above the earth’s surface.

His jump set a world record for skydiving and became the first person ever to break the sound barrier without the help of a vehicle. His max speed? 843 mph.

You can find the entire video online, but I’ll warn you, it’s a bit disturbing at the beginning. As Felix reenters the earth’s thicker atmosphere, he begins to spin completely out of control. You can hear him say “My visor’s fogging up,” and “Feels like I have to pass out.”

As he continues his descent he regains control of his fall, slows down as the atmosphere become denser, and successfully pulls his parachute.

His harrowing fall reminds me of 2020-21.

Our visors have fogged up. Our goals are harder to see than ever before. We’ve lost loved ones. We are more divided than ever before. Many folks have spun out of control on their base jump.

My goal as a financial planner is to give you direction and relieve some of your stress so that you can land on your feet, exhilarated by the ride and hopeful about the future.

What steps will you be making in this season to best prepare for the rest of your journey?

Let’s talk about that.
